"Should" is an incredibly dangerous word. It is used almost exclusively when someone's mental map of the world has diverged from reality and they don't want to admit it (e.g. "People should care about thing I care about"). Of course there are times when it is used properly, to discuss the most likely outcome of an uncertain event. But start paying attention to real world usage and you may find, as I have, that more often than not, "should" just means "this isn't what has happened, is happening, or will happen, but I want to lie to myself that it will."
